As musicians, we know how important it is to find gear that truly delivers—without the unnecessary complexity or hype. Our reviews focus on what really matters: practical, real-world insights that help you make informed decisions. With a straightforward approach and a love for music, we bring you honest takes on the tools that shape your sound, combining professional knowledge with an appreciation for the simple joys of making music.
For a while now, our main studio monitors have been Kali Audio LP8s. They're reliable, and their sound quality is exceptional for their price point. However, the nomadic lifestyle of a musician often calls for compact and portable solutions. Recently, I started using the Kali Audio LP UNF, which are close-range monitors designed for listening at arm's length. At this very moment, I’m enjoying Ivo Pogorelich’s stunning interpretation of Scarlatti sonatas through them (you’ll find one of these masterpieces below).
Compact and Easy Setup
These monitors are incredibly straightforward to set up. You only need two cables: one that connects the speakers and a DC power adapter. That’s it! Simplicity is key, especially for those of us who move often or set up temporary studio spaces.
Bluetooth Connectivity
The LP UNF speakers offer seamless Bluetooth functionality, allowing you to connect multiple devices at once. If you’re like me and use Spotify to explore new music, you’ll find this feature especially handy.
Sound Experience
The sound isn’t just “left and right.” These speakers create a soundstage right in front of you, surrounding you with an immersive aura of music. It’s as if the music is alive, right there in the room with you.

Bluetooth Sync Issues
While watching a movie using Bluetooth, I noticed occasional audio interruptions – millisecond clicks that broke the sound briefly. Although the audio quality itself remained excellent, these interruptions were enough to make us switch to a wired connection for a seamless experience.
Size Constraints
While compact, the size of these monitors can still be a challenge in certain setups. For example, I couldn’t place them on my desk due to its small shelves. Instead, I positioned them underneath the table, and they still delivered perfect sound, wall mounts might be a practical solution as well.
